Joy & Loss

We get both. Joy. Loss. None of us get out of this human experience without a dose of both and all their variations.

This past week was supposed to be an explosion of JOY for me. A road trip with my childhood best friend. A stop along with way to see another friend I hadn't seen in years and time in the mountains and beach. Sounds lovely, right?

Instead there was joy and loss. My friends' step mothers was placed on hospice care and everything changed. I opened my heart to the experience, allowed in the joy that was available and befriended the loss that was ever present. I flew home early from this trip, so very grateful for an experience no one could have predicted. And there was both, joy and loss.

I share this with you today in hopes of inspiring you too look at your life through the lens of both rather than fighting for only one. What if there is room to hold both at the same time? If we only ever strive for the joy then inevitably we are disappointed by the loss and perhaps miss the opportunity to see what a powerful teacher she is.

Is there room for you to welcome both?

Is there space emotionally for you to be with both?

I hope so, as there is so much beauty in the both.
